TIT FOR TAT

Collecting Laurel and Hardy Items

FILM MAGAZINES

Before the advent of television and home-computers, avid cinemagoers would rely on weekly or monthly magazines such as Film Weekly, Picturegoer, Film Fun, and Photoplay to get information and pictures of their favourite films and film stars. Now these magazines are desirable for several reasons: they would often interview ‘Laurel and Hardy’ and do write-ups on their films. The downside is that many of the articles are highly inaccurate. On the plus side, many contain good background stories about the making of their films, along with great on-set photos. One of the best was a feature on the filming of Babes in Toyland,’ which we have turned into a web page on this site. These old film magazines can be picked up in places like the ‘Vintage’ magazine store in London, or at Film and Memorabilia shows and, of course, on the Internet. The hard part is knowing which magazines contain Laurel & Hardy related material, without having to thumb through every single page to find out. Over the years we have reprinted many superb articles and photos from these old magazines and have built up quite an archive of material. Here are just a few magazine covers that we have collected over the years from various sources.
